The Home Help Services is a program administrated by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). It is designed to give support to individuals who are unable to care for themselves adequately at home. This program provides funding for individuals to hire helpers to assist with daily needs and activities all from the comfort of their own homes.
Available Services
The Home Help program may pay for the following activities of daily living:
✅ Eating and/or feeding
✅ Bathing
✅ Dressing
✅ Grooming
✅ Moving throughout the home
✅ Transferring from one position to another
✅ Using the toilet
If you qualify, you may also receive assistance with the following:
✔ Administering or setting up medicine
✔ Laundry
✔ Light housework
✔ Meal preparation/clean up
✔ Shopping for essential items
✔ Travel for shopping/laundry
Services Not Covered
The following services are not covered by Home Help:
❌Heavy housework
❌Home repairs
❌Prompting or reminding someone to complete a task
❌Supervision
❌Transportation
❌Yard work
To receive Home Help Services, a person must:
✔ Have active Medicaid
✔ Require physical assistance to perform at least one of the activities listed above
Individuals are required to submit an application to the Home Help Program and a Medical Needs Certification form, which you can find below.
We have team members who speak English, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, Taishanese), and Arabic who can assist you in applying for this program.
An adult services worker will meet with the client to conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine what services are needed and the amount of time it takes to complete each task.
